The government of Tanzania plans to build a
grid-connected gas-powered electricity power station at Somanga-Fungu village
near or at the location of the present installation. The new power plant will have installed
capacity of 320MW. A financial adviser was
selected to advise government on the project and the project has now gone out
to tender with an estimated cost of $365.6 million.
The power plant operates on natural gas sources from
Songo Songo Island which Aminex supplies via pipeline from Kiliwani North. After a strong week and a stream of good news
over the weekend Aminex have already announced previously that they themselves
have plans for further exploration in the area with planned seismic 3D to be
put out to tender in the near future.
Kiliwani North is a key asset in the Aminex portfolio and
production commenced in April 2016 and represented first production for the
Company in Tanzania. The well was used to commission the new TPDC operated
Songo Songo Island processing facility which feeds into the major Tanzania
pipeline. The field is adjacent to the Songo Songo Field which has been
onstream since 2004. Kiliwani North-1 was a vertical well drilled from the
Songo Songo island and encountered gas in Neocomain aged sandstone
